About Donna
From coping to meaningful growth

I didn’t come into this work because I had everything figured out. Like many of the women I now support, I became very skilled at "coping." I learned how to adapt, achieve, and keep going. From the outside, I looked capable and steady. Inside, there was often anxiety, pressure, and a quiet sense that something didn’t quite fit.

It took time—and my own experience of therapy—to understand something important:

"Coping isn’t the same as living. Feeling “fine” isn’t the same as feeling safe".

The Turning Point: When talking wasn't enough

For years, I practiced yoga, but it wasn't until I found a slow, precise Iyengar class that something shifted. For the first time, I wasn't just "exercising"; I was being pulled out of my head and into my body. I realised that for much of my life, I had been disconnected from my physical self as a way to manage previous experiences. Yoga became my path back to embodiment.

Around the same time, I read Bessel Van Der Kolk’s The Body Keeps the Score, and the science finally met my experience. I began to notice in my clinical work that for some clients, talking simply wasn't enough. Despite their best efforts to create healthy changes, something was holding them back: their nervous system.

The Language of the Nervous System

This was my most transformative shift. I realised that my most "admired" traits—were actually sophisticated survival strategies:

  • Pushing through exhaustion,

  • Always being "kind,"

  • Staying endlessly resilient

In women especially, these patterns are praised. But through a trauma-informed lens, we see that constantly over-functioning or people-pleasing are often signs of a nervous system that has learned to stay on high alert.

My Approach: Compassionate, Private, and Embodied

Learning to work with my body rather than against it changed everything. Boundaries stopped feeling like rigid walls and became a grounded internal compass asking: What’s okay for me? What’s not?

Today, I run a dedicated private practice in Warrington, Cheshire and online. I am a trained, trauma-informed counsellor with specialist training in nervous-system and movement-based approaches, drawing deeply on my background as a qualified yoga teacher.

I specialise in supporting women who feel overwhelmed or stuck after years of holding everything together. My approach is both compassionate and practical. We don’t just talk about change; we create the physiological conditions for it.

I believe counselling is not only for crisis. It is a space for meaningful growth—a place to reconnect with yourself and build a life that fits, rather than one that simply functions.
